# Kenney First Game Kit — README

A starter set of game art and sound for your first 2D game, curated from
Kenney's public-domain library — plus the one discipline that makes it look
like ONE game instead of five: **consistency** (see `consistency.md`, the
heart of this kit).

## What's in the kit (three downloads on the Forge page)

| Zip | Contents | Files |
|---|---|---|
| `kit-sprites.zip` | Pixel Platformer — tiles, backgrounds, characters (18×18 world tiles, 24×24 characters), Tiled examples | 250 |
| `kit-ui.zip` | UI Pack — buttons, panels, sliders, icons (PNG), 2 fonts, a few UI sounds | 879 |
| `kit-sounds.zip` | Interface Sounds (100) + Digital Audio (63) + Impact Sounds (130) — clicks, beeps, thuds, footsteps | 296 |

Total download: about 3.8 MB. Everything is **CC0 (public domain)**: use it
in a commercial game, sell the game, no attribution required. Each zip keeps
Kenney's own `License.txt` inside; `license-cc0.txt` in this pack states
the terms again.

## Which Kenney packs these are (provenance)

Downloaded from kenney.nl on 2026-10-23, curated — not mirrored blind:

- Pixel Platformer 1.2 — https://kenney.nl/assets/pixel-platformer
- UI Pack — https://kenney.nl/assets/ui-pack
- Interface Sounds — https://kenney.nl/assets/interface-sounds
- Digital Audio — https://kenney.nl/assets/digital-audio
- Impact Sounds — https://kenney.nl/assets/impact-sounds

Curation notes (what we changed, in the open): removed Kenney's promo
`.url` shortcut files and OS junk (`desktop.ini`); dropped the UI Pack's
`Vector/` folder (the same art as SVG source files — the PNGs are what a
first game uses; the full pack, vectors included, is free at the link
above). Nothing else was altered. Full details in `kit-contents.md`.

## How to use it

1. Download the three zips. Unzip them next to your game project.
2. Read `consistency.md` BEFORE you generate or place a single asset.
Paste it into your AI session — it is written as instructions an AI
follows, not just advice to you.
3. Build inside one family: Pixel Platformer is your **world**, the UI
Pack is your **interface**. Never a second world family.
4. When you need a colour, take it from `palette.md` — the kit's measured
palette. New art (yours or an AI's) gets recoloured to it.

The full Kenney library (60,000+ assets) is free at kenney.nl. This kit is
the small, consistent subset that gets a first game finished.
