Godot Game Pack: a real engine, with a fence around the AI.
Godot is a complete, professional game engine — MIT-licensed, free forever, no royalties, no seat fees. What it doesn't ship with is a way to keep an AI build session from wrecking your project by week two. This pack is that part.
Forge entry · Bundle Wave 1 · engine by the Godot Engine contributors (MIT), harness pack by this project, 2026-10-23. One of the Forge shelf.
Why Godot (the anchor it replaces)
The mainstream alternative for a beginner's “real engine” is a commercial seat: Unity Pro listed at $2,200/seat/year in early 2025 and announced at $2,310 from January 2026. Godot's price is $0, its license is MIT, and the comparison isn't charity — Godot is the engine behind shipped commercial games. The free tool is the serious tool here.
Measured facts (checked 2026-10-23)
| Current stable | Godot 4.7.2-stable, released 2026-08-18. This pack is written against the Godot 4 line. |
| Editor download | 77.9 MB (Linux x86_64) to 170.6 MB (macOS universal) — one download from godotengine.org, links in the pack, verified live. |
| Export templates | 1,281.3 MB, downloaded once inside Godot before your first export. Printed here and in the pack so it never ambushes you mid-export. |
| License | MIT, verified against the engine repository's LICENSE.txt. Your game is yours; no royalty, no seat, no runtime fee. |
What the pack makes happen
- A game clarifier, not a generic one — six questions shaped for games: the second-to-second verb, win AND lose states, session length and level count (one, for a first game), the pinned art family, the exact controls, the primary platform.
- Frozen acceptance for a game — checkable by playing: win reachable without cheats, lose reachable, restart without closing, no placeholder art in the shipped level, the export plays smoothly on an ordinary laptop.
- Scene discipline — one scene one job, one change at a time, project.godot treated as load-bearing, a snapshot zip before every AI session so a bad session is restored, not negotiated with. The doom loop — fix one thing, break another — is the named enemy; these rules are the counter.
- Export to web — presets to a browser build, the index.html-at-the-root rule, and the SharedArrayBuffer checkbox that Godot 4 web exports need on itch.io.
The nits, stated plainly
- We don't ship the engine. A 78–171 MB binary belongs on Godot's own download pages, which will always be more current than a copy here. The pack ships links and discipline; if godotengine.org moves, the links are the thing to fix.
- The pack will age. It is pinned to Godot 4 (written against 4.7.2). A future Godot 5 will need a revised pack, and mixing 3.x/4.x code or tutorials into one project is a real breakage source the pack explicitly fences against.
- The discipline doesn't make the AI smarter. It makes its mistakes small, local, and reversible. A beginner still has to play-test each change — the pack says so, per change, because a change that “shouldn't affect anything else” is exactly the one that does.
- Web exports have real limits — whole-game upfront loading, some locked-down browsers block them. The pack names the fallback (a Windows download export next to the web build).
Run it yourself
Download the engine from godotengine.org (links by platform in the pack's README), download the pack below, answer the clarifier, freeze the acceptance — then open the engine. Pairs with the Kenney First Game Kit for art and sound that already match, and Publish Your Game when it's time for a public link.

Adding to the Forge
A Forge entry needs a name, a one-line claim, an author line, a worked example with real measurements, the files, and its limitations on its page — this one included.
